Facts and myths about scholarships in Poland

Applying for a scholarship can sometimes feel like a tough decision. Is it always worth applying? What if I don’t know how to start? Get to know the facts and myths about scholarship recruitment in this guide prepared by the team at MojeStypendium.pl!

What should you know about scholarship applications?

Facts about scholarship recruitment

Fact 1. Every scholarship program has its own criteria and specific features – there’s no such thing as a “universal scholarship.”

So how do you find your way through all this? Use the filters in the scholarship database to pick a program that best matches your needs and talents. Browse announcements and regulations to see how many different types of scholarships exist in Poland!

Fact 2. Scholarships can be found throughout the year, not just in September or October.
To be more precise:

  • If you’re looking for scholarships for school students in Poland, most are available between March and September.

  • For university scholarships, check from July to October.

  • If you’re interested in sports or arts scholarships, watch out for deadlines in December–January and October.

And still, it’s a good idea to check our scholarship newsletter and database once a month, because we add new announcements all year round!

Fact 3. Scholarships aren’t given only by schools or universities.
In fact, more and more organizers are offering them – we know this because we studied it and described it in the report Scholarship Map IV. Scholarships in Poland are awarded by:

  • local governments (especially sports scholarships, but not only),

  • foundations and associations,

  • public and government institutions (e.g. ministries),

  • companies,

  • universities and schools.

Myths about scholarship recruitment

Myth 1.It’s already decided who will get the scholarship, so it’s not worth trying.”

Luckily, scholarship programs have clear criteria, recruitment processes, and selection standards. Often, members of the scholarship committee must declare conflicts of interest, which means they cannot evaluate people they know personally. Of course, as in life, unfair cases may sometimes happen. But from our years of experience, we see that most scholarship organizers care about fairness and transparency. Most programs follow very good standards and rules! Don’t let one unfair case change your attitude toward hundreds of interesting and valuable programs out there. 🙂

Myth 2. “If I didn’t get the scholarship before, I won’t get it this time either.”

That’s a myth, because in each edition of a program the number of applicants and their applications are different. Sometimes the formal criteria or even the approach of the committee changes. That’s why it’s worth trying again – both applying to new programs and reapplying to the same one in the next edition. What’s more, if you already have experience applying, it actually works in your favor! You already have some documents prepared and know how the process works – all you need is to update and improve your application.

Myth 3. “Scholarships are only for good grades.”

Not entirely true. While many programs focus on academic results, there are also sports, arts, and social scholarships, where your grades or achievements in academic competitions don’t matter at all!
